Petcube Hits $200k, Announces Mobile App Features

At $200k, Petcube is the most successful pet product on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

SAN FRANCISCO – October 29, 2013 – High-tech pet care is important to pet owners; if you need proof just head to Petcube’s Kickstarter page. With six days remaining in the campaign, Petcube has exceeded their funding goal by 206% for a total of $206k. Today, Petcube introduces a number of features for the upcoming mobile app, including the ability for device owners to share access, the ability to search for public Petcubes to play with, and a Petcube timeline.

Petcube owners can choose who they want to share device access with- friends, family, or members of the public can help keep Fido busy. The browsing screen of the app allows people to find a dog or cat they’d like to play with. The first Petcubes will be installed in pet shelters and open to all app users. Once Petcube is delivered to the public, there will be more opportunities to browse and find pets in homes.

The timeline portion of the app combines information about the app users, their pet, and their device. Users can browse recent photos and activity of device owners, leave messages, and follow users to see future updates in the newsfeed.

“The primary purpose of the app is to provide seamless connection to your pet,” said Petcube’s co-founder Andrey Klen. “Basically your cat or dog is only one tap away to interact with. You can’t find anything like that at the App Store”.

Petcube comes equipped with a wide-angle video camera, a microphone and speakers and a low-intensity laser beam, all encompassed in a durable aluminum 4-inch cube. The app allows users to run the interaction process from their smartphone or tablet. Users can see their pet and use joystick-like controls overlaid on the video stream to move the laser pointer for the animals to play.

The mobile app will be free so anyone can access and play with Petcubes open to the public. The iOS app will be available for download and play this winter, at the same time Petcube prototypes are put into shelters across the US. The Android app will be released prior to the shipping to backers in May 2014.
